At this point, I took the wood and laid it together to get a sense of how this was going to look.
While you’ll still need to buy a post or a pipe from a store like Home Depot or Lowes, these brackets allow for easy access to the bat house. This store carries many different type of brackets, but our favorite is the Easy-Up swivel pole bracket. After hours of extensive research, we’ve found the best bat house poles on the market. First, it needs to be tall enough to allow your bat box to be mounted feet off the ground.
The best place to hang a bat house is on a pole or a building. Buildings are less versatile than poles, because, obviously, you can’t move a building to match the ideal bat roosting requirements. To get the best sun exposure and internal temperature, mount your bat house facing SE or SW. Either direction will provide 2-8 hours of direct sunlight, ample enough to warm the bat house to the ideal temperature. During the summer months, many bats build nests in trees, beneath bridges, or even inside buildings. So if you’d like to attract bats to your home then build them this sanctuary and hopefully, they will come. Once I had cut grooves over the whole backboard with the circular saw, I took my hand saw and deepened some of the grooves. I did this because I was not sure if the circular saw went deeply enough and also to roughen it up even further.
